It feels scary to talk in front of the camera. Do it anyway.

Yesterday, I had a conversation with my hairdresser. She was planning to start creating videos for her social media, but there was one thing she was really hesitant about: talking in front of the camera.

Sharing tips about hair, styling and other things she is an expert in. She would much rather avoid it because she felt embarrassed and uncomfortable.

But there are two things worth keeping in mind.

First, when you show yourself as an expert, you build a more personal connection with the people watching. And those viewers could very well become your future clients. It would be a shame to miss out on that opportunity just because talking in front of a camera feels uncomfortable.

Second, it will feel awkward in the beginning. But the more you do it, the more comfortable you become. And the fear usually fades over time.

That's exactly how it was for me when I started making YouTube videos. In fact, it was even more challenging for me because Swedish isn't my first language. Improvising in front of a camera in a foreign language isn't exactly easy!

But now, after doing it so many times, I no longer think about whether I'm speaking Swedish, English or Ukrainian.

You get better with practice. And the most important thing in the beginning isn't to be perfect – it's simply to get started.

Just eat that frog.
